I keep a lot of stuff in my fridge that I use pretty regularly,so I
basically run it all the time on propane. Around town, it rarely flames
out -- but I do listen for the "click-click-click-click" of the ignitor
every time I get out.....just in case. Freeway speeds are another matter,
and I always INTEND to switch to DC for long drives, but sometimes I forget
-- and about 1/3 of those times the flame blows out.
I've noticed that it SEEMS less likely to blow out during the first week
after I've filled the tank -- though I 'm not sure yet. That makes some
sense due to the higher pressure, but.....?
The only thing I'm really concerned about is wearing out the ignitor: there
are times when it has been on for an hour!:-(
I rented a Westfalia once that would reignite automatically when the flame
blew out on the freeway (!!) and I'm not sure how. On mine, I definitely
need to push the 'safety' button to get enough gas in there to light it.
Since were on the subject: a reminder to shut off the main propane valve at
the tank and all interior appliance valves when filling up the propane tank.
I HAVE heard at least one horror story of an rv blowing in half when the
valves were left open and all the propane hit the pilot light in his stove.
And if someone walks by with a cigarette within 25 feet of you when you're
refilling, do tell him to go away.
AND>>>>MAsking tape works fine to seal up the flue for car washes. Just
don't forget to turn it all off again or maybe boom boom.
Comments welcome. I would like to know if any one has a REALLY good reason
why driving with the fridge on propane is a bad idea.
