Matthew, I too use Chevron's Techron fuel system cleaner. I use it as a preventative measure rather than to correct any problems (so far). I also add a few mls of 100% isopropanol to the gas tank every so often in an attempt to "mop" up any water that might have condensed in there (a problem here in the cold damp winter months). I am curious about the composition of Techron. It sure smells like naptha (or Coleman fuel, or Swix ski wax remover). I have the suspicion that naptha is the main ingredient, but what else have they added to warrant the fairly high price? Time to ask for the MSDS I guess!
