Hey List,
I was/am a Lurker with a question at the end of a very amusing story. last
week end this chaos ensued:
Last Friday, I was on the way up to visit my friend Amber, Mary and I are
happily trucking along at 60MPH. Stop for coffee, check oil, a lil low, add
a quart, start back up. Ten minutes later Mary goes 'What's that noise?' A
glance out the back window reveals thick white smoke billowing out of the
tail pipe! 'SH*T' I pull over, kill the engine, pop the driver side valve
cover, and the smoke is streaming out of the #3 cylinder. Got on the cell,
Called AAA gave my location, and threw on my South Park DVD to watch. Tow
truck show's up, and I get Towed back home <an HOUR, might not seem
important now...but keep reading> My Thing gets dropped in the driveway, and
I end up working instead of partying. My VW shop couldn't look at it till
this Tuesday <over a week>
I planned on getting my VW towed over on Saturday, but due to a server crash
at work I couldn't. Oh I haven't mentioned that since my VW is my ONLY car,
I'm stuck driving Mary's car <Chrysler> well, no biggie, Sunday is just as
good. I end up picking up a Gig on Sunday, so Mary volunteers to call AAA
and get the Thing towed over. My pager gives off at 12:30 in the afternoon
with my home number. Strange, no one should be there I think. At this point
I should point out that I'm sitting in front of a Black and Decker outlet
store with my brother <was killing time till the show had to be loaded out>
So I call home and get Mary on the phone.
A hear a meek voice saying 'Hun, guess what?........You're VW fell off the
tow truck'
Ok, I'm thinking this has got to be a joke, I car doesn't 'jump' off a tow
truck. Well, she wasn't joking! The Tow Truck Driver messed something up,
and my lil VW pulled his sled off the truck. I'm in a battle with the
insurance company.
So here's the question : is a vanagon a suitable daily driver? the insurance
money will go towards a 'new' vehicle...I'd love a bus
