The 83 AirCooled is a weird beast (It's a VW!) but it shares the same requirements all internal combustion engines do... Air Fuel Spark Compression Timing.

You first have to figure out which one it doesn't have. The concensus on the list is ECU's don't bad that often.

Start with fuel, goto spark, finish with timing.

What did you change before it stopped running?
