Congratulations on dodging the big one!

I recently posted a note about how all of the cars I have taken care of over the years have taken care of me and my family, without exception, whether involved in an accident or a breakdown. I received many responses from listees with similar experiences. Cars are a collection of inanimate objects, but I think something happens between "person and machine" in the case of our cars that can't be fully explained.

My daughter has wrecked two cars so far (she is 25), but not suffered any injuries. The first one was when she was 16 and had just gotten her license. She learned to drive on my Vanagon Westy, which is a very challenging vehicle to learn on with a manual transmission and no power steering. She even passed her driver's test in it! She was technically a very skillful driver, and that led to overconfidence. She was not paying attention one day while driving our '78 VW van and rear ended a baby diaper truck. Our van was totaled, but she was wearing a seat belt and was not hurt. She has been a careful driver ever since!

Good luck, and drive carefully!
