Subject: Diesel burning block heater?!

<<I recently purchased a 1982 westy diesel which was imported from Germany (German Spec). It has what I believe to be a diesel burning auxiliary block heater ... know anything about this unit? Service advice, manuals, etc..>>

Gord - those things are useless and dangerous - you must get it out of your van immediately! In fact, for $50 I'll come and remove it from your van if you want. :)

No - seriously - from what I've heard, the diesel-fired Eberspachers are great heaters - safe, reliable and efficient - and without all the quirks and dangers of their gasoline (model BN2 and BN4) counterparts commonly found in air-cooled NA vans. IMHO, you're lucky to have one! For more info, go to http://www.espar.com/ - you'll likely be able to find a dealer nearby who could perform service work if needed, or provide operating info. The Eberspacher (Espar) diesel heaters found in the US are commonly installed in commercial trucks and buses, and in boats as well.
