Regarding the cleaning of alloy wheels, I can tell you what my father did some years ago.

He read somewhere that a great way to remove brake dust etc from alloy wheels was to wash them in the dishwasher.

He was right - worked GREAT! Really great!

The next week we put a new motor in the dishwasher, too.

(A true story too, I might add)
