Hello Volks,

Wow, after my return I found many responses and requests for the catalogue. It looks like the demand will exceed my supply. I do not intend to follow North American marketing strategies and will not raise the price for this shipment. I will respond to everyone in sequence (pmail) and send detailed information how to get the books.

This project is meant to be helpful to us as VW owners. I am reluctant to copy the catalogues that are still available from VW and if there is enough demand I will look for another shipment. The Syncro catalogues are not available any more and we will need to rely on some copying. (I am considering copying the whole Syncro Parts Catalogue and send it out as one piece for list members' personal use only). The 1980-85 catalogues do not seem to be available as well. However the later catalogues cover pretty much everything of the earlier ones (including Diesel engines). I have them all and will compare. I will consider some copying of catalogues that are not available for the personal use of list members.

By the way I first discovered the existence of such a catalogue in Norway when I was travelling with my 1978 Bus. European list members may get them directly from the dealership.

An anecdotal note: This weekend I talked with an engineer friend of mine who spent a long time in development projects in Africa. He was saying that many African people he worked with in engineering projects had a difficult time to understand exploded views of components. They would only see them as drawings of individual pieces and could not see how they fit together. Some also had difficulties to understand cutaway views of machinery (where you can see parts of the interior). They would see everything as an outside view and consider the images of interior parts as outside drawings. This points out that this parts catalogue may not be for everyone. :)

cheers,

Björn
