That would be me, Dennis H. I say that because the load of the compressor is
just too much on that engine in that application. The AC raises head temps
enough that the engines do not last any reasonable length of time for what
they cost to repair or replace. I'll probably get flamed for this, but my
overall experience with engines in these vans has not been that good. I
remember wanting a Vanagon back in the early 80's while I was still driving
my '72. I was finding 1 and 2 year old vans that already had engine
replacements. My first Vanagon ended up being an 84 Waterboxer. Glad I
waited.
