<< 1) What can I plan for cruise speed?

I have had no problem cruising at the speed limit in my '85 Vanagon. 70 is the fastest I would go for any length of time (some speed limits are 70 now).

2) What spare parts are handy to have along?-

Couple gallons of coolant, spare belts, some hose clamps and duct tape. A spare tire and some fix-a-flat. Also I would include some Moroso Ceramic Block sealer as this would allow you to temporarily fix a head leak and continue your trip with no problems (available at you local speed shop). My phone number (856)-765-1583 in case you break down and need some parts overnighted to you.

3) After 1,000,000+ miles (yes the commas are right) in a Chevy Cargo Van two things near and dear to my heart: is their foot room? and how high do I have to crank the radio to cover road noise?-

I think your are going to be pleasantly surprized on both of these counts. You will have plenty of leg room (unless you are over 7ft tall) and the road noise is minimal. You might not even have to turn on the radio. Having the engine in the rear is great for reducing engine noise, heat, and vibration in the pilot's seat (unlike your former van where you were almost straddling the engine- kinda like a massive Harley :)
