Welcome Art from beautiful Oklahoma- You will find the motor on your 1982 to be substantially easier than on the loaf. Follow Haynes or Bentley for all the clues. Procedure is nearly identical, but you are helped by MUCH better access, and the fact that the bell housing in the Vanagon floats/drops, rather than being mounted to the van. I haven't a clue about finding a water tank...what happened to yours? These don't often "wear out"??? Welcome aboard, and Happy Thanksgiving. G. I'm new to the Vanagon list but have been on the type 2 list for the past 3 years. I just purchased a 1982 Westy and so far, I love it. Unfortunately, it has the dreaded #3 dropped valve seat that must be repaired before I use it as a daily driver. I need to know how much more, or less, difficult it is to drop the engine as compared to my 73 Westy. Does anyone know where I can find a replacement water tank? And finally, If you know someone who wants a newly repainted 73 Westy in good shape...I've got one for sale!!! Art Long Midwest City, OK 73 Westy ($2500 OBO) 82 Westy...waiting to be fixed!! |
