Anyone who owns a VW or Porsche (or other make with a VDO speedometer from this era) has a high likelyhood of running into this one - there's a gear that turns the odo that is notorious for coming loose. A drop of superglue fixes it. There's an excellent repair procedure shown in a tech article at www.pelicanparts.com. Just adapt the Porsche-specific info to your vehicle, but the concept's the same. FWIW, the 914 has essentially an air-cooled bus engine, so there may be some other useful info in the 914 section for all you water-challenged drivers. All the usual disclaimers. Frank Miller
