Well that sucker won't leak if you ever get it back in!

Try warming the shaft to soften the O-ring, then chamfer the edge of
the  hole in the case with a file.  Put a rag in there first to collect
the filings.  You do need to remove the clamp and install it on the
shaft before installing.

Don't let a little tiny O-ring get the better of you!
