The Haynes technique certainly works, and I'll bet it's the most commenly
used tecnique, even by the "pros."

Have the CV joint well supported by the (large) bench vise, and certainly
be careful not to bugger up the end of the shaft or you'll have a devil
of a time getting the CV joint back on.
