Also equal to Snap-On and MAC are PROTO tools. These brands also provide free replacement if it breaks. Snap-On makes a quick-release 3/8-drive ratchet, p/n F723A. There is a very noticeable difference in quality of sockets by Snap-On (more material) vs Craftsman. Causal home user will never need the extra quality, of course. It was heaven for a while here in Albuquerque as Snap-On opened its first retail store. Lasted about a year--guess that means it won't happen elsewhere. I think an alternate distribution channel to the trucks is Snap-On Industrial, and I've in the past been able to mail order tools from them. (Just say "VISA card" when they ask for PO number.) You should know the part number in advance so you need a catalog or to get the p/n off an actual tool. See http://industrial.snapon.com/ and click on "contact us."

Having said all this, I think our Vanagons expect German tools. See http://www.baumtools.com/stahlwil.htm
