Subject: Loss of Power and Surging-Results!
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

Hi there,

Everyone, thanks for sharing your knowledge! Well, the cause of my grief was the O2 sensor. Analysis revealed everything else OK, just the sensor. So, replacement cost and diagnosis by my local VW guy put me at over $300 to get back on the road ($200 for the sensor! - unfortunately I had no time to "shop" around for a sensor and do it alone!)

My concern now is that I may have *destroyed* my catalytic converter and/or muffler with burning rich. My concern is that the excess fuel in the cylinders burned in the cat converter and destroyed it b/c of heat, likewise the muffler. I am in for a new exhaust anyway soon, but the cat was relatively newer. Any thoughts to check this hypothesis w/o going to get smogged?

Thanks again.
