Subject: CB Antenna purchasing advice

I stopped by Dysart's Truck Stop on Thanksgiving day (all stores over 5,000sq ft closed in Maine by law, ayuh!) to try to locate some small fasteners for some Vanagon maintenance chores. Wandering through the extensive CB department I looked at several magnetic mount antennas for my 87 Syncro.

One was a short (14" or so) thick flexible black spiral wound shaft sold under the "Diesel" brand for $17, the other two were thin silver metal shafts of about 30" in length sold by Wilson and K40 for $30 and $34.

While the short one would look somewhat better, would fit under overhangs and drivethroughs better, and is cheaper, I suspect that it would not perform as well as the other two. Any thoughts or personal recommendations on how the above three might perform would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony
