Dear List,

Those of you who patiently follow this list know that I have been struggling for months with a misbehaving engine. Today I finally managed to get the timing mark to line up properly with the seam on the case. I have

not had time to buy the tach meter several have recommended to check the actual idling speed, but it sounds good and the engine doesn't stall. The

hiccupping that plagued me for so long at 20, 35, and 50 MPH is almost gone ... but now the engine surges. That is, it accelerates on its own for a few seconds every minute or so as I am driving. Very annoying. Also, it looks as though a lot of carbon is coming out of the tail pipe. Any further ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Woody

PS Anyone had any experience with Greg's Repairs in Natick, MA?
