I thought the back end was intentionally sat lower than the front, at least to some degree.

My theory has always been that the incline has had to do with sleeping in the van. With a slight tilt, sleeping is more comfortable. If the van were level or sloped the opposite way the blood all flows to your head when you sleep and you wake up feeling super-groggy.

Or there's the possibility that since the driver & passenger sit ON/IN FRONT OF the front wheels, the unweighted van may need to sit higher to compensate.

Or VW was just going for that majestic, gazing towards the horizon look.

Or none of these.
