Subject: Free Bentley Manual - Chapter 2
Well listees, that didn't work.
My first inclination is to put the book back on the trash pile. But first:
- Fie on you folks who replied directly to me rather than on the list as I
asked.
- I got some replies that offered various kinds of advice, and I
appreciate that. But nothing clicks with me yet.
- Some folks just asked for the book. Well, I leaned toward disqualifying
you for asking because what I asked for was advice. But then some of you
received support from the list and one of you even offered to donate to
the list in return for the book. And, how about that fellow from Turkey?
I am fairly experienced in giving things away. My son brings home lawn
mowers, bicycles, microwave ovens, computers etc., besides Bentley manuals.
He and I repair and clean up what we can and pass them along to folks that
can use the items. In these cases, the supply and demand are more equal,
and there never has been much of an issue of who should get what.
I don't want to be the judge of your need, nor do I feel good about "first
response" in such a large community. I don't want anything in return
either.
I have intentionally been verbose in my comments so far. The reason is
that I am about to reward those interested enough to have gotten this far.
I am resetting the offer to zero and ignoring any requests that have
already been made and accepting new requests. So, if you have already made
a request, you need to repeat it now. No exceptions. To be considered,
you must send mail directly to me this time, and do not copy the list or
you will be disqualified. The subject must include the word bentley and
you must explain why you want or need the book. By sending this mail to
me, you will be giving me implicit permission to share the contents of your
mail with the entire list. I will acknowledge each request and I will
leave this offer open for the next 48 hours.
Thanks,
Mike Phoenix, AZ

Subject: Free Bentley Manual
Hello,
My son came across a sad Bentley manual on a neighbor's trash pile a couple
of days ago. It covers 1980 through 1991 and is tattered and falling
apart, but it does appear to be complete. Put in a three ring binder, it
ought to be OK.
I am perfectly willing to give it away on this list, but I don't know how
to. I don't want to give it to the first person who replies, but rather to
the person who most needs or wants it. However, after saying that, I think
that I would probably end up giving it to the best writer or the best liar.
So, how do you think I can best give away the book?
Please reply only to the list (for public scrutiny) and keep the same
subject, so I can scan for replies.
I do believe that this is an appropriate Friday post.
Thanks,
