Volks, It seems to be all the rage in Europe to install Vanagon gauges in your van. I have been toying with this idea for a while as my 1984 Westie only has a speedometer and no tachometer. I have an instrument cluster from a 1991 Golf with a tachometer and a 220km/h "950" speedometer (191 919 033 MQ). The tachometer looks like it is the same diameter as the clock in my Westie the only thing missing is the water temp gauge in the Golf tach so a direct swap with some fancy wiring behind it all seems out of the question. The next step would be to install the whole gauge cluster, which brings me up to some more question of what do you do with the master cylinder / brake reservoir and the trim piece holds the radio and heater controls? How do you "trim" it off and still have everything look neat? Please let me in on the secrets!
