When writing to Gerry, make your email send plain text only! Try not to quote long messages within yours! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I desparately need help with this one! Last shop << really! : ) >> re-installed my cv joints and the axle thingie (is that a "transaxle") but in doing so A) Used triple-point screws that are smaller than 8mm I assume the screws they used show up sometimes in Vanagons. QUESTION... what sizes of triple point screws are people seeing? (The tool that is, the screws themselves of course are all the same size) B) stripped two of the screws completely. The stripped screws are of course on the wheel side inside the housing where I can't get at them to apply a vise grip. QUESTION... If I free the tranny-side cv joint, and rip the wheel and brake apart, can I pull the wheel off the car with the wheel-side cv STILL ATTACHED?? The transaxle would sort of drag through the housing around where the wheel side cv is supposed to be. If this works, the idea is that I'd then have a axle sticking out from my car with part of the wheel attached, and I could then get at the stripped screw with the vise grips/saw/drill. Will this work? What's involved with pulling the wheel and brake? Thanks! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Steve E Lansing Mich 84 Vanagon |
