Dan-

Do a quick search of our archives over the period from sept-nov of this year on the words "isolator", and "solenoid". Discussed ad nauseum.

In a nutshell, you want the $17 solenoid for most uses, as the VW alternator is different, and it likes solenoids, and dislikes isolators.

So, the JCWhitney catalog sells battery isolators, but lists a special stock number, fortunately cheaper than the rest, for VW vans only. These are for using 2 batteries, etc.

Anyone know what is special about the VW that they have to make a special one for it?
