Ian, For my inline VW equipped Vanagons we get between 11 and 13 liters per 100km. Whis is a little better than the factory boxers got - same engine in a Rabbit gets 6 to 7 liters per 100km... I think you won't get much better than 11 (upper 20s MPG) as you have to use a lot more energy to get that mass moving and keep it moving.
