Yes, its a 2,0-16V, available in The Passat and Jetta in the US (Maybe also
Audi 80?), Even the Corrado here in Europe (but not the Jetta :-( ) and
available as 1,8-16V in Golf, Jetta, and Scirocco.

It's the same engine as all other VW 4-bangers (mostly, at least) but you
will most probably need to modify the decklid as the engine may protrude,
being the 16V version.
