Subject: which exhaust system is best?

It's that time...

All the pipes show significant rust, and I've got several holes on the driver's side of the system. I am open to suggestions from people who have replaced the exhaust on a non-syncro, 2.1 waterboxer before on whether I should consider an aftermarket (i.e. performance) system or should I stick with the factory pipes and muffler. I kinda was holding out for the Stebro system, but that lead seemed to have gone cold and dead several months back.

Also, how is this job to do at home? Lots of skill and tools needed? Or basic skill, tools and patience. I plan to replace muffler and cat when I do the pipes.
