Red flags, red flags!!!


This is worse than the guy who said new brake shoes will warp old brake
drums!


Vanagon engines do not "warp." They leak, crack, blow gaskets, and have
noisy lifters but don't "warp."


Sounds like a mechanic's mumbo jumbo two step dance trying to get out of
re-doing a failed head replacement job.  You may need to bring a large
friend with you who understands Vanagons when you go back to talk to
this guy.


BTW, your engine is the 2.1, not 1.9.  Did he tell you that too?
