Jay & Kim

I just had the transfer plate off my 81 Westy motor so I can tell you how I did it. I simply inserted a center punch in the access hole for the tc bolts thru the bolt hole in the transfer plate. Worked great for me.

I can also tell you about the mistakes I made. The bolts are 12 MM spline bit not a T55 American 6 point bit. I didn't figure this out untill I had buggered up a few of the bolts pretty bad (Yes I am a bonehead). I was afraid I had buggered them so bad that I would not be able to reuse them. When I refitted them I used Locktite and tightened them as best I could. I have about a hundred mile on the motor so far with no problems but I do still drive with my fingers crossed. I'm going to Charlie Fords campout this weekend and figure if it makes it the 150 mile round trip I can stop worrying.

I also replaced the tc seal which was leaking on my motor. You may want to think about this one too while you have the motor out.

Good Luck Ron Hill 81 Westy w/pretty badly buggered but tight TC bolts
