In England you are driving on the left side of the road for some strange, inexplicable reason, and a slight pull is normal due to the crown of the road for drainage. In France you drive like the rest of us on the right side of the road, and it should pull slightly to the right if the alignment is perfect.

If you were driving a Westy, the pull to the left on English roads would be even more pronounced and maybe there would be no pull to the right driving on the continent due to the weight in a Westy being on the left side. Since you say you are driving a transporter, then I think your alignment is slightly out of whack.

Rear alignment on Vanagons is limited to camber, which won't affect steering, only tire wear.

Either find a better specialist for the front and rear alignment or just live with it. You may want to consider new upper control arm bushings too before another alignment. My last front and rear alignment cost $120 with tax, which is 74 quid, so I don't think they did a whole lot for your 17 quid. You may be stuck with the dealer on this.
