Subject: Coolant Flushing - Iowian Method (IM)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

To Flush coolant the way they do in Iowa, do the following (IM):

1. Modify an expansion tank cap to have a lawn hose fitting on the top; 2. Connect lawn hose to modified cap, remove rad bleeder bolt; 3. let low pressure water flow from tap through hose; 4. Catch coolant as it flows from rad, then give up and let it spill (wipe it up with hay) 5. When coolant is clear, start engine, keep flushing; 6. Stop engine, replace bleeder bolt, start engine, run till comes to full temp. 7. Remove bleeder bolt. Connect a bicycle pump to another expansion tank cap (suitably modified) and pump untill about two gallons of water flow out of rad. 8. Add two gallons of coolant to expansion tank; 9. Bleed system of bubbles.

It worked for me, by the way, and sounds a lot more complicated than it is. (sure beats removing hoses)

Your results may vary.
