A good rule is to definitely make sure they are at least a 6-ply sidewall. Anything less makes the corners feel like mush and they will feel unstable. I just got some Continental Contacts (from Tire Rack, hard to find locally.) They are great. I beleive they are made specifically for Vanagon/Bus. Around $48 each + Shipping to your door. Great Tires.
