Subject: Stripped thread, oh no
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Hi all

Can anyone help me on this? After replacing leaky pushrod tubes on my 85 Vanagon, I stripped the threads on one of the studs that holds the rocker-arm assembly in place (Don't ask how, lets just say I had a brain f*rt and used too much torque). The nut does not come off either now. Since I needed the van next day, I peened the end of the stud a little bit, put the cover back on, topped off the oil and have been driving with this for a few days now. Fixed the oil leak but have this nagging problem of the stripped stud. I ordered a new stud from VW, and it will be here tomorrow. Question: How difficult is it to take out the stripped stud? In case it doesn't want to come, do I heat it? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Alfred 85 Westy
