Boy, the perils of the do-it-yourselfer! Haste makes waste. We have all been there.

It is easy to strip those studs, happens all the time when you don't use a torque wrench.

I have to give you credit for the temporary fix, but I would have welded the nut to the stud! It may come right out now with the nut since you peened it over, but if you can get the nut off or can't weld it on, remove the rocker assembly and use a pair of vise grips to get the mangled stud out, and doubled up nuts to get the new one in.
