Brad, You will want to check all the shifter adjustment tips in the archives, but if those fail If you can get into 3rd you at least haven't broken the shift fork. I suggest you bite the bullet and get an experienced PRO to rebuild it, someone like Gary at AA Transaxle. http://www.aatransaxle.com. Gary's price list says $1300, but you get what you pay for: the "Deutsche Method" according to Doktor Tim. I have rebuilt several standard transmissions, but wouldn't touch the sophisticated syncro box, too much expertise required, not to mention tools, like a press, bearing splitters, dial indicators, collection of shims, micrometer or dial calipers, etc., etc. I'd pay someone who knows these complicated boxes and their quirks.
