Hi Susan, I have maintained uninteruptible power supplies. Sounds like a deep discharge battery was recommended. Regular automotive batteries deliver large amounts of energy over a short time, DD batteries deliver the same amount of energy over a longer time (simplified explanation). The DD battery is *meant* to be charged & discharged regularly.
