why not build an "ottoman" that fits between the seat and the glovebox, where the passengers legs would normally be? and put some foam and cover it with fabric like the seat. that way, the area the dog has to lay/sit on is nearly doubled. and you could store stuff underneath, if you left the sides open. :) that way, you wouldn't have to remove the seat at all. and if you carried people, you could just take the ottoman and put it in the back.
