My son owns/operates a window tinting operation, both automotive and commercial. He has added the 3M clear sheild to his available product line for his auto customers. If applied over a new paint, be it a fresh paint job or factory new, it really protects the paint from rock, sand and other debris. The system really works well, and the 3M product is of good quality.

As I understand it, this product originated with the aerospace industry. It was a very good protector for leading edges of helicopter rotor blades. The auto racing industry picked up on it, because it would protect the racing cars colors as well as prevent sponsors decals from peeling off at high speeds. It would also hold things together somewhat if there was car damage, may even keep a car in the race, where as if it were not in place a surface body part could fall off and force a car out.

I first saw this stuff on a car racing show. Looks good to me.

I am going to have it installed on the front of my van when I have it painted. Paints to chipped up to do it now. I think it will be great to protect the flat front of our vans.
