There are definitely precidents for the provision of additional cooling fans - and not for the obvious reasons.

I am reading the Bentley on Bosch Fuel Injection (excellent book!), and I believe it mentions several European cars have fans that are designed to come on AFTER the engine is stopped - to protect the fuel injectors. The book is in the van - and I cannot off hand remember which cars are mentioned.

According to this book - exposing fuel injectors to extended periods (45 min) of heat-soaking is very bad for them - causes them to clog up.

When you shut off the engine - the temp in the injectors rises, because the cooling effect of flowing fuel is elliminated - and the engine heat is still radiating.

This is called "heat-soaking" - and fans will help reduce it's effect.
