FWIW, the PPO of my 91 syncro westy also had an engine box fire (WV
fault in mis-wiring a new engine).  He felt so poorly treated by the local VW
dealer and VW Canada, that he says he will NEVER buy another VW
product.  It is still under litigation 4 years later.
