Tom Carringtons reply was right on. You need to keep your diesel geared trans when the stock engine is used. Simply put your bell housing on it & down the road you go fairly cheaply. $200 for a known good used trans is decent. Remove 8 bolts and pop your housing off. A new gasket (or some silicone if things are corroded) and pay attention to the condition of the end of the input shaft.
