4 Quarts of oil sprayed out in only that short distance. The rubber >gasket at the top of the filter had failed. First and last time I used a >Bosche filter... This has happened to me before. Not with a Bosch filter. Mine was due to "pilot error" in installation. Rubber seal ring managed to slip out of position when inserting cannister type filter onto a '72 Mercedes. 8 quarts in the driveway. What a mess . . . Since then (many years) I double check and triple check the seal rings on any kind of filter before casually slapping it up there. Also, never overtighten an oil filter. It can cause the gasket to pull away from the filter housing and begin to bind up on itself, creating ripples, and warping the can. Leak city! Could this have the culprit in your case?
