I've noticed the questions about the rear heater leaks over the last few years, but I'm still a little puzzled. After taking the 3-sided "wood" cover over the heater core/fan assembly, I can see coolant directly below the unit. However, there does not appear to be a leak at either of the hoses or at the valve. I've heard of people talking about failures at these points, but it sounds like it might be possible for the core to spring a leak as well. This is an '87 by the way. So, from this brief description, does it sound like a heater core leak? Is the only real fix a replacement of the core? If this is the case, the job looks fairly simple though a bit messy. Meanwhile, will the leak be diminished if I temporarily keep the valve closed until I have a chance to do the repair? AS always, thanks for the help.
