I called Detlev at Vanagon Projekt regarding his comments. He was very pleasant and informative. As I previously mentioned, he misunderstood what I was asking about. I was referring to a variable brake pressure regulator as in some of the other VW models. These usually consisted of a valve with attachments to the rear axle carrier. Thereby allowing the automatic adjustment of hydraulic pressure to the rear drum brakes proportionate to the load. He explains that he meant that there is no variable proportioning valve but simply a (fixed) pressure regulator. Sounds like a knowledgeable mechanic (at least he did over the phone) with some communication deficiencies (in English). I'm willing to give him the benefit of doubt. Afterall, I also count English as my second language. I will pay his shop a visit 2nd week of January to see his 5-cyl conversions firsthand. He will also get me a price on the Oettinger rear disc brake kits (just for the hell of it). WOW! He's talking DM 3,950 plus shipping. Were talking almost 3 large US$. 'Will report back here with results. Merry Christmas one and all. BenT Citadel Properties.
