I have the same situation for winter mountain pass driving. There is nothing more miserable that installing chains by the side of the road. Dirty and cold, and requires dexterity difficult to get from frozen fingers. Cable chains are the easiest I've found, you don't need ramps. Just drape over the tire and hook up the ends--the one in back of the tire is the tricky one, laying on your stomach is mandatory! Make sure you put them on tight, and you don't need any rubber bands.

Chains are great for going uphill, and help control your speed when going down, but if you need to negotiate any curves on the downgrade consider chains on the front too, they will give you much better steering control. Nothing quite equals the experience of drifting towards a flimsy guard rail beyond which is a 2000 foot drop straight down!

If your sister wants to see you as much as you seem to want to see her, have her pick you up at the end of the road!
