>>At Tom Forhan's bus party several people suggested I should look into Caanan valley in the Mongahela (sp) National Forest, WV for good XC and mountain skiing.

I need some further advice on the national forest. I'm looking to go backcountry skiing (or if there is no snow hiking), so I don't want to go to one of those XC ski centers. I'd appreciate any specific advice for nice uncrowded areas and/or recommendations for guidebooks/maps.

Hey, Volks. As the Self-Appointed Ambassador from West Virginia, I'll volunteer to help you set this up if you do want something in West Virginia. Canaan isn't bad, but there are yuppies present. I hear Snowshoe isn't bad (Marlinton, Pocahontas County) and there's LOADS of wilderness there. It's absolutely beautiful there in the summer. Never been in the winter, though. (I don't ski.)

It's also a little out of the way, but the two go hand in hand, do they not?

This will be quite a haul for the upper PA types, but might add the VA/ NC people (Bulley?).

www.state.wv.us/tourism is an interesting site.
