I'm considering converting rear drums to disc. I plan on using early Vanagon
front rotors if it will fit inside the rear hub. Does anyone know what the
diameter of the early front hub is versus the rear hub on my '87? It could
save me a trip to the local wreckers.

I'm uncertain as to which caliper to use yet. I've done this conversion on
other vehicles using 914 or GTI/GLI calipers with built-in  parking brake
levers. The caliper gap is tight but I think I can make it fit. The Vanagon
is a very heavy vehicle. Therefore, I'm a bit concerned whether this is a
wise choice. Considering that most of the braking is done by the front
(brakes), should I be?

When I converted my Fox Wagon, I discovered that VW was thoughtful enough to
include a variable brake proportioning valve. Is there one in the Vanagon?

I don't have Bentley manual for this vehicle yet. Inquiries by phone with
some who did, yielded nothing useful. Per my friend, no dimensions are
indicated in the Bentley nor can he locate reference to proportioning valve.
