I've found a rather Zen method of getting rid of tailgaters; it rarely fails. We carefully, conveniently, make it far more convenient to pass us than to tailgate. If I'm not already in the right lane, I move there. I gently drop my speed to the speed limit, or slightly below. Our license plate helps "PASS US". If need be, I pull to the right shoulder slightly, and slow significantly. When all else fails, and they just HAVE to be on our bumper, I follow the lead of the octopus, and the skunk: I wash the windshield COPIOUSLY (30-45 second spray), making the atmosphere behind the van unbearable comparatively.
