Subject: Road Salt Rust Problems/Hidden Damage On Vanagons??
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

Hello from Atlanta, where we do not use salt on our roads. I am considering purchasing a New England-based Vanagon that has road salt rust on the side panel seams and behind the rear wheels. Shall I assume that the rust I see is only the tip of the iceberg, and that the hollow beams, nooks and crannies and underside under the original undercoating are also slooowly rusting? Can rust be dealt with permanently and cost effectively on our Vanagons, or is it a never-ending battle?

Regards,

Christina and Michael Nichols '81 Weekender with no rust and minty body and paint.
