Subject: VW Week.

I had a VW week. I had the outside half of a split pulley disintegrate on me at midnight Christmas Eve. This is the outside pulley on the water pump of a 1.6 diesel. It happened in the middle of no where Alabama. There was no chance of getting a new pulley.

After much head nodding, and drawing in the dirt ( a redneck language), it was decided to try to bypass the old belt configuration for a new one. I went around the crank, water pump, and alternator on the inside set of pulleys with one belt. There seems to be minimum belt grip on the water pump, but it works.

I found a belt on a local farmer's tractor that was close. I had to place the generator tension bolt on top of the bar to get it tight enough. I had to add a few washers. 1000 miles later it still works.

I am looking for an outer Water Pump pulley with shims. I can take just the outside flange. Let me know if you have one before I have to pay full price for the whole thing. Thanks!

Bill
