I used a 1" cutting board.  I bought it at the local kitchen supply store for $15.  With a 12"x12" board you can make a complete set of "lifters" (2 pieces).  Everything, except for cutting the board was fairly easy.  You can use the black rubber spring stop as a template for the lifters.  The cutting of the board was a bit tricky.  The plastic melted from the hot saw blade and welded the the cut pieces back together.  I could only cut about 1/2 an inch at a time.  Then I had to clean out the melted plastic.  It was quite a bit of work!

The springs came out without problems.  I used spring compressor to get them back in because of the reduced clearance with the lifter donuts in place.  I placed the lifters on top of the black rubber stops.  Fits nicely.

The air lift idea sounds ideal. However ....

Somebody also  mentioned using hockey pucks as risers to give the rear end more lift.

No - this is not a Friday Funny!

Can the person who knows this trick speak up, please - and share it?

I spoke with the folks at Air Lift this mooring.  They will send me their Air Suspension kit for the Vanagon.  I will install it on my Syncro and let you all know how it goes.  If everything works well we can also try it on a 2WD Vanagon.

Cheers,
Peter
